God is the first and best of all beings and the origin of all created things.

Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning, GOD…”

John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the WORD and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”

Isaiah 44:6 – “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and ihis Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.”

God was before all things. Nothing came before and or will come after that can dethrone him.

He is God of all, forever and ever.

He exists outside of time and has no beginning and no end.

2 Timothy 1:9 – ”Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.”

God was not created. He is before all. He has always been and always will be.

Implication: We Have Confidence In His Authority

We can rest in God completely confident that His authority will always be final. No one will ever overrule his wishes or plan. If He says He loves us, we can remain confident that someone else who doesn’t love us will never dethrone God and take over running the universe

Psalm 8:1 – “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”

Psalm 96:4 – “For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.”

Psalm 97:9 – “For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.”

1 Samuel 2:2 – “There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.”

There is no one more beautiful, wonderful or amazing than the One True God. Everything good is based on Him and everything beautiful is merely an imitation of Him.

Everything starts with God. Every beautiful thing you’ve ever seen is just trying to capture a snapshot of the glory of God. It’s all a reflection. It’s a shadow.

Implication: We Have Confidence In Worship

We can be absolutely sure that no one will ever be more worthy of our worship. We won’t wake up one day and realize that we’ve been worshipping the wrong God all along because we found something more beautiful, glorious or deserving.

We are the only people who can say that.

No other religion can accurately claim complete confidence in worship because they aren’t worshipping the BEST of all beings.

Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Colossians 1:16-17 – “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”

John 1:3 – “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

God created everything that was created. John 1:3 says nothing that was made would have been made without him. I think John says it that way to tell us that God Himself was not made, but that everything came from him.

Implication: God Owns And Cares For Everything

This is key.

If you make something, it’s yours. You have a right to it. Even my four year olds understand this principle – If they draw a picture they have a right to that picture. If their brother comes behind them and draws on their picture, they get angry.

Why? Because now the picture doesn’t look like it was supposed to look and he had no right to change it.

I believe God feels the same way. He has a right to everything. Everything. You are not your own. You belong to God. Everything you have has been entrusted to you by God and you are just a caretaker.

Even Satan is just a caretaker – a very bad one, granted. Part of the curse of sin is that God has given this world over to be ruled, at least in part, by Satan.

2 Corinthians 4:4 – Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe.

John 12:31 – Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

Satan has been given dominion over the earth, but even he is subject to God’s will.

Consider Job – God gave Satan explicit instructions about how he could tempt Job. (Job 1:9-12) – God granted Satan authority to tempt Job and afflict him, but Satan was given very specific parameters and he had to obey.

All created beings, including you and me, are only caretakers of what God owns. As such, everything we do must be subject to His will. Anything else is sin.

Why does God hate sin so much? I believe partly because it destroys what He owns!

So, if God is the origin of all things and He owns all things then He must be our highest priority. We were created by Him and for Him.

Is God your highest priority?
